The war on Terrorism is not a positive thing

The United States has been at war ever since the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. That is now ten years ago. Think about this for a moment. Almost ten years have passed since that war began. This article will focus on the reasons why the War on Terrorism is not good for the United States with the focus on Afghanistan. The United States launched an invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001 with the objective of eliminating the Taliban government and getting Osama Bin Laden. Although, the Taliban government collapsed quickly, they were never defeated. The Taliban under the direction of Mullah Omar dispersed and began to use guerilla warfare style attacks on the countries that were involved in the war effort. Osama Bin Laden was not captured and he escaped to Pakistan where he was living in a huge compound for many years before he was killed.

The first reason that the War on Terrorism is not good for America is because terrorism is an ideology and not a government. Terrorism is used as a response to social grievances that a group may have against another group of people. You can never defeat terrorism by using military force, invading and occupying a country. The way to eradicate terrorism is to try and determine the reasons behind it addressing those reasons and find a political solution to the situation.

The second major reason that the War on Terrorism is not good for America is because a war like this can never end if you don’t address the main causes of terrorist actions. The US will only end up creating more enemies by using the aggressive tactics of war and violence against Afghanistan or any other country on the globe. America is a target for violence by fanatics because of its foreign policy towards the Middle East and unless America changes its policies, they will never be able to solve what they are facing now.

Another reason why the War on Terrorism is doomed to fail is because America will never get anything positive out of attacking Afghanistan and they haven’t gotten really anything positive out of it. The country has a president by the name of Hamid Karzai who is not seen as a legitimate leader by the majority of the Afghan people. Hamid Karzai controls only a few areas of the capital city of Kabul while the Taliban still controls the majority of the country. Hamid Karzai is seen as an ally of the United States government that was put in power.

The War on Terrorism is not and has not been good for America because America has wasted billions of dollars fighting a war that it cannot win and it has neglected the needs of its population. All of the true military experts agree that America cannot win in Afghanistan. The Afghans are a proud people who will not allow any country to occupy their land. America cannot win a war against an entire nation that is so determined to expel foreign occupation forces from its land. America could have used the billions of dollars that it has spent in Afghanistan to make sure that no person in America starves. America could have had enough money to create the finest education system and to insure that its infrastructure and health care system was functioning well. But instead, the American government decided to go to war in Afghanistan because of its need to show force so that it could dictate to the rest of the world that it is still a superpower. Just imagine if America had used the money it spent in Afghanistan on its own people. America would have been in a much better situation economically.

The War on Terrorism is also doomed to fail because this war is just wrong. It promotes violence, aggression and hatred. America cannot police the entire world and it has got to get back to addressing the needs of its own citizens instead of worrying about Afghanistan. The people that founded the United States wanted to have a country that had free trade with all nations of the world and alliances with none of them. What America is doing now is the exact opposite of what people such as Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George Washington had in mind. It is time for America to adopt a more peaceful policy towards all countries of this world. If America does this, they will be more respected throughout the world. This country was founded on good principles and the War on Terrorism must end right now.

The war on terror is not supposed to be won. You are right, the war on terror is a war against a tactic. As long as it doesn't take a physical form, you can never identify it or stop it.

This war is different than our longest running war in only a couple of ways. The war on drugs is a war that's not supposed to be won either. Forty years, billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives destroyed and what have we accomplished? Drugs are stronger. Drugs are more plentiful, Drugs are cheaper, and usage has remained steady. One positive thing has come out of the drug war. A couple of private prison systems are making millions off of government contracts to house prisoners and then using the prison population to run temporary emplyment services. Entire factories are beng staffed by private prisons and they are charging 12 to 20 dollars an hour per inmate. Inmates are paid pennies and companies like the one Dick Cheney had ownership of during his efforts to secure contracts with his position as VP.

The same small group of companies that are supplying the Armed services for the war in Iraq and Afghanastan, are supplying the war on terror, border patrol, and the vast war on drugs.

We are paying for satellites to catch pot smokers, WTF is wrong with that picture?

Bottom line is this. America has been at war with gruop or some country for 4/5 of it's existance. Those who make money off of nothing but war have a real interest in making sure there are wars to fight. Their very existance is based on our country killing people. The fact that a lot of these families are represented in politics and have been for 50 to 100 years or more, explains why we have been at war for so long and so often.

The only war America is winning today is the war on the middle class. Funny thing is, it's the middle class that's killing themselves off by voting against it's own best interests. Damnedest thing I've ever seen, the Republican party has acually trained it's followers to demand that nothing ever be done for them. Pure Pavlov in action.

You are right A_Vaha. The Bush Administration fought an illegal war in I that left the job in Afghanistan only half completed. We had international support and goodwill in Afghanistan and threw it all away in Iraq.

Thanks HSchneider for your comment. You have a point there but I would add that the war in Afghanistan has also destroyed the US economy. it costs too much money just to pay for each soldier.

Alright since that answer must have been erased.....You labor under the false assumption that the only source of evil and war in the world is America. That is exactly what you friends in the Muslim world want you to purport.

Now you can continue your little fight until it's just you and them. Shortly thereafter you will discover how used you are. Whenyou are decapitated.

JSChams,

I am in no way saying that America is the only reason there is war and violence in the world. What I am saying is that this war on terror is promoting things that are not okay for the safety and security of the country. It is illegal, immoral and goes against the principles the US was founded on. We can't continue to wage wars that have no real purpose other than to terrorize innocent populations.

So when we are attacked? You know part of it Is right. It's not a country. Hence we have been in two or three countries trying weed things out. It may seem wrong but you MUST show your strong side against the terrorists. That's all they know.

The solution to terrorism can never ever be through military force. It can only be solved through addressing the REASONS for action such as this. All the true military experts will say that the war in Afghanistan can't ever be won.

Which reasons? So we address those and bang! they turn into cute and-fuzzy bunnies?

Because history does not support that idea.

Here are a few things the US can do:

1. Withdraw all troops from the Middle East.

2. Develop a policy of free trade with all nations and alliances with none. This is exactly what the US was doing in 1800.

3. The US should really support democracy if they really believe it.

4. Let the Palestinians have their own state and don't support Israel's occupation.

If the US does these 4 things I can guarantee you that fewer people would want to go after the US. If you don't believe me, ask anyone who really knows about foreign affairs.

I don't go by the title. War against terror cannot be good or bad. The problem is how you take it as a phenomena because it is a global problem and it must be handled with keeping every country in mind including the places the war is on. I think America has personalized it too much. It never accepted its existence in our region until it came back to haunt it. It is seriously change its approach immediately or may be keep getting the body bags of its soldiers.
