The United States needs to practice a policy of peace

In recent days, I am sure most of you especially those that are now living in the United States know what has been happening recently. The United States under the Obama administration once again has used the powers of force and aggression. In 2001, the target was Afghanistan and that war is still going on for almost 10 years. In 2003, the target was Iraq and that war is still going on as well with apparently no end in sight. And now, the target is Libya, a nation that has never attacked the United States. For the United States, the answer is to be a more peaceful country instead of acting like a country that wants more war and violence. What are the United States and other western nations doing? They should all be focused on peace instead of war.

The United States for many years has been known as a country that has the world’s most powerful man. This country has also been known as a country that is supposed to set a good example for the rest of the world. Other nations used to look up to the United States as a leader of the world in democracy, freedom and human rights.

However, this latest conflict in Libya proves to the world that the United States is not committed to being a nation of peace. President Obama’s foreign policy is not only irresponsible but it is reckless, foolish and dangerous. War is never the answer to the world’s problems. War only creates more of what we don’t want. But the United States does not recognize this reality. The United States and other western nations are not even thinking about freeing the people of Libya from oppression and tyranny. They are only concerned about seizing control of Libya’s oil and to replace Libya’s current leader with another dictator who will listen to whatever the United States and other countries tell it to do.

I have studied history and foreign affairs long enough to know what the United States is after. The United States still wants to prove to the world that it is the only super power nation left. While our citizens here in the United States continue to go without work, proper housing and food, President Obama is really ignoring our needs and instead is thinking about the people who work for him.

Any human that is a peaceful person would oppose war of any kind. We should not hate others, but we should love them instead. Love is the answer as well as peace. The United States was founded on the principles of peace, good relations with other nations and alliances with none. President Obama is clearly violating these principles.

The United States has wasted billions of dollars in Afghanistan to try and eliminate the Taliban. But they have been unable to do so after almost 10 years and the Taliban still maintains control of many parts of that country. Meanwhile, the US supported leader Hamid Karzai only controls a small portion of the capital of Kabul and he is most likely afraid to venture outside of that city for safety reasons. For the United States, peace is the answer, not war. The US has no business even being in Afghanistan. The US must live by the principles set up by the people who founded this country.

The United States has also wasted billions of dollars in Iraq and that war still has no end in sight and who knows if the US troops will ever leave that country. Officially, we are told that something like 4,400 troops has been killed. All of these troops did not die to protect America. They died to help the oil companies get more profits. I know for sure that many more than 4,000 US troops have died just in Iraq alone. The US media never tells us the truth about anything. The real number of unfortunate US Iraq dead could be 15,000 or 20,000. It is none of anyone’s business who the leaders of Iraq or Libya are. It is up to the people in those countries to decide for themselves who they want to lead their country. If the people of those countries want to have a dictator in charge, it is their business. It is not up to Barack Obama or the United Kingdom’s leaders to decide that. Anyone who loves the United States would want America to be an example of peace in the world.

No US soldier should have died just to get rid of Saddam Hussein and no US soldier or soldier from any country should die to liberate Libya. Peace is the best answer because only peace can make the world a better place to live. And the United States as well as other western countries has an obligation to be peaceful countries. They must support the rights of other nations to have whatever leaders they want to have. It is not right to try and force other nations to adopt democracy. The United States should be concerned about addressing its internal problems. This is the first thing it must do. And secondly, the United States should adopt a more just and peaceful foreign policy as was indicated by Presidents Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams and George Washington.

The United States has been in existence for well over 230 years and it is really important that this country changes its foreign policy and make peace a part of it. As to whether the US will adopt a more just and peaceful foreign policy, that remains to be seen. I recommend a policy of peace instead of war and violence. Peace and love are the best, most honest and just policies for the United States to adopt. Anything other than that is not good enough especially for a country that has been recognized as a leader in democracy and human rights. The best human rights tactic to have is to be peaceful and love others, and love your enemies too. As hard as it is to love your enemies, love and peace is the only route to a better world. War and violence especially for the United States solves absolutely nothing. War and violence only creates more war and violence. Peace creates love and other positive results and makes the world a much better place for all of us to live in.
