Strategies to lower your job search stress

At this present time many people in the United States and other countries around the world are busy looking for their next job so that they can return to the work force again. The job search tends to be long, exhausting and stressful also. No one can search for a job for eight hours every day without getting tired and stressed out. But when the job search does become stressful, you can reduce this type of stress in other ways. Besides getting regular exercise which has several health benefits, there are some other ways that you can reduce the stress caused by your long job search.

1. Call up a close friend and tell them how great you feel because they are in your life

The simple act of just calling up a close friend to tell them that you are feeling great is a great thing to do. Just by doing this, you will feel better because you know how great it is to have close friends.

2. Think about someone you admire, respect and love

Thinking about someone that you love gets you into a healthy and a positive state of mind. This positive state of mind reduces stress because it makes you feel good and it helps you to focus on one of life’s greatest joys. The person that you are thinking about does not even have to be someone that you know personally. Admiring someone you do not know is good also because it shows that you have caring and compassion as a human being. If you feel that this person has made a difference in your life and influenced you, go ahead and think about them.

3. Just enjoy having a hot cup of coffee or tea and really take the time to enjoy the aroma and flavor

If you have a nice hot cup of coffee or tea it warms up your body. This is especially true in the morning hours of the day. As you drink this cup, focus on really enjoying the flavor, taste and aroma of the beverage as it is in your mouth before you swallow the liquid. You are so fortunate to be able to enjoy a beverage that the poorest people in this world do not have access to.

4. Watch funny videos and movies either by yourself or with a friend

There are few better ways to reduce stress than to use humor in your life. By watching funny videos or movies by yourself or with a friend, you begin to have fun, relieve stress and focus on something that makes you feel good.

5. Find something to laugh about

This is similar to what was mentioned above. There are always things that you can laugh about during the day. Think about what they are and make them a part of your life.

6. Write a letter to someone thanking them for something or you can also write a letter to someone that you care deeply about

Writing a letter to someone thanking them for something they did for you show that you are kind enough to think about them and that you appreciate what they did for you. Writing a letter to thank someone also reduces your stress level because you will feel that you did something very valuable. Gratitude for what someone did for you will open up more opportunities for the good things that will be headed your way.

7. Limit your job search time to no more than a few hours per day

As was mentioned previously, no ne can dedicate eight hours a day to the job search. That kind of effort will take its toll on your body and lead to stress, eyestrain, fatigue and possibly burnout. Make sure to have a job search that lasts for no more than a few hours a day so that your body stays in good shape and you will have time for your other necessary things that you have to do.

8. Relax in a place away from home if you can

If money and finances are not a problem, you can consider taking a vacation and finding a location away from your home that you can rest and relax at for a limited time. This relaxing vacation reduces stress and will help you rejuvenate and recover from all the stresses of the job hunt. You will be able to forget about your busy life for a while.

9. Be grateful for every day that you are still alive

Life is a blessing and a gift that has been given to you. For every day that you are alive be grateful for it because you will never get any of these days back. Every day is a day for you to live and try your best to enjoy while also looking for ways to improve yourself. Just because you don’t have a job doesn’t mean you should be miserable and bitter. Instead, focus on the fact that you still have life in this body of yours.

10. And remember that nothing lasts forever

In this period on Earth called life, nothing lasts forever. Everything including your employment status is temporary. Everything will change at some point because this is the way that nature operates. Plants grow and die. People get sick. People get jobs and lose their jobs and get new jobs again. This is how life is because life constantly changes. Don’t feel sorry for yourself because you are “unemployed.” Not having a job means you still have the job of looking for one. It doesn’t do you any good to think about what you lack in your life. And lots of other people in this world have it worse than you do. You have got to remember that nothing lasts forever.

If you make it a good habit to keep these ten points in mind as you search for your next job, you will be less stressed, more relaxed and you will feel better mentally.
